*UPDATE* My mom reminded me that I forgot to mention the acclaimed artist who did the paintings above the fireplace...none other than the talented Miss Lucy Elise!
As promised before, I painted my mantle and brick (sorry, Nana, I did paint the brick!). I'm thrilled with the result. And because everyone likes a good before and after, here goes:

The mantle is the same color as my kitchen, Benjamin Moore Semolina (matte finish Aura paint). The brick is done in Benjamin Moore's floor & patio paint in Light Gray. It covered the brick really nicely and I didn't need to use a special masonry primer. Now let's see how durable it is! Next step...re-decorating for Christmas so that Santa doesn't pass us by, thinking that we worship the gods of home design rather than Baby Jesus :)

sabs, you did a good job and i like it but i also like the appearance of the original fireplace. have to admit it shows up better once you put your touch to it. well done. nana
Love it Sara. But, you did not give any credit to the very talented artist who did the original oil paintings....my very own granddaughter...Lucy!!!!

Oooh - it looks so good! And, the original artwork sets it off so nicely :) You did a great job!
Sara, I found your blog via Shawni's and noticed that you also live near Boston. I love the paintings above your fireplace! I bought three large canvases last summer to do the same thing for our living room, but didn't quite have the courage to just let the kids at it! I'm officially inspired now. Did you just use acrylic paints from the craft store? Oh, and I loved the photo of your darling "angelina nannarina" on another post--too cute!
